16 February 2022August 19, 2026 IDefine and the creation of an international community for Kleefstra syndrome In recent years, one of the most important developments for the Kleefstra syndrome community is the creation of the IDefine, a non-profit organization aiming to bring families closer together, strengthen research, and contribute to the search for therapeutic approaches for the syndrome. IDefine was created on the initiative of families directly affected by Kleefstra syndrome and is gradually forming an international network of parents, researchers, and professionals. Alongside community information and networking, it supports data collection initiatives and research collaborations that can help in better understanding the syndrome. An important part of this effort is Kleefstra Chats, regular online meetings where families from different countries have the opportunity to communicate, exchange experiences, and stay informed about community activities and research developments. For such a rare syndrome, the creation of an organized international community is particularly important. Families can connect with each other, while at the same time a common space is created where the needs of individuals with Kleefstra and their families can meet with the expertise of researchers and professionals. Steps toward more organized cooperation between families and professionals active around Kleefstra syndrome are also beginning to be taken in Europe. For us in Greece, this development is yet another reminder that networking matters. The more families communicate with one another and the more they connect with the international community and research, the more opportunities are created for information, collaboration, and a better understanding of the syndrome.
